Take the sultry vibe of the Latin American Tropics, combine with the
rhythm of India (“Taal”) and stir into Tropitaal, a Desi/Latino
Soundclash where the hottest club sounds from India and Latin America
go head to head in an all-night dance-off of epic proportions.
Resident DJs Anjali & The Incredible Kid combine their deep passions
and deep crates from across the spectrum of Latin, Indian and
Caribbean vibes. (We are not talking Salsa, but Reggaeton, Moombahton,
Digital Cumbia, 3Ball Guarachero, Latin Trap, Dembow and more.

Daniela Karina channels underground diasporic club from around the world to share her vision of a polyrhythmic Pangaea with the dance floor, finding inspiration in emerging transcultural sounds and reinvented ancestral rhythms. She can be found bringing the fringes of global dance to the Pacific Northwest as a resident at Club Culo and Club Tropicana. As a facilitator at S1 and member of No Control Crew, she is dedicated to increasing the visibility of women and nonbinary folks in electronic music—through skill-sharing, equipment shares and creating opportunities via hosted workshops, lectures and curated events.

When Anjali and The Kid started Tropitaal five years ago many people were confused, how do South Asian and Latin club music go together? Now J. Balvin tops the international charts with “Mi Gente” sampling a Bangladeshi film song, and on this year’s trip to India Anjali and The Kid heard multiple reggaeton songs on Mumbai pop radio and a dembow mix being played in a Punjabi mall food court. The future Tropitaal predicted has finally arrived.
