Anjali teaches Bhangra/Giddha dance lessons at the Viscount Dance Studio from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Tuesdays.
From the fields of Panjab to the dance floors of Portland?!
Thanks to the infectious beat of the dhol drum the Panjabi folk dances bhangra & giddha have been a making inroads on to American dancefloors over the last several decades.
Originating as a male harvest dance, Bhangra is from the state of Panjab which resides in both India and Pakistan. Giddha is the traditional women’s dance. Moves from both dances will be taught in these classes.
Instructor Anjali Hursh, better known to Portland as “DJ Anjali” has been DJing and dancing bhangra and giddha for more than a decade and is finally moving her dance classes out of the night club, and into the dance studio.
These days you don’t have to be Panjabi farmer to take part in the fun.
From South Asian weddings to nightclubs worldwide, bhangra’s energizing beat is taking over the world.
These are high energy folk dances. No partner is required. Bare feet are encouraged.
